Impala Cresent School Library Opening
The New Impala Cresent Primary School’s Library was launched on Friday, 29 July 2016.
We had the privilege of attending the event in Joburg. It was a very special day witnessing the opening of this beautiful library.
The library is a collaboration with our partner School Aid UK and Usborne Books. School Aid UK invests heavily in South African schools by donating high quality and age appropriate books, by refurbishing school library spaces and by making a tiered 3-year contribution in support of a school library assistant’s salary. We endeavour to create an enabling and sustainable environment with the partner schools, ensuring that the 3-way partnerships go beyond a big room filled with colourful books.
The Impala Primary School joint project was launched with Dr Don Matteka (author, poet and activist) giving a lively and inimitable encouragement to learners, educators and guests on the power of books (and reading for leisure) as a path towards true emancipation for many black South Africans.
The school principal, Mr Adam, gave a thorough vision and leadership roadmap for how the school library will make a difference to the learners at Impala Primary. The School Management Team and the School Government Board are committed to making the new library a major part of their curriculum.
Impala Cresent has over 910 students and initially only had 200 books – not anymore. They now have over 5000 books in their new library.
We congratulate the school community and promise them The Bookery and School Aid’s support in making this important resource a glowing success. Thank you to everyone who was involved in making this library a possibility. Much love and hard work went into this project.
